Roof repair & replacement in Bergen County, NJ

New Jersey’s most populous county, from the Palisades to the Ramapo foothills

Bergen County packs 70 municipalities, more than any other county in New Jersey, between the Hudson River Palisades and the Ramapo Mountains. It’s a county of tree-lined streets, older inner-ring towns, and newer neighborhoods to the north and west, and that mix shows up on its roofs.

Roofing in Bergen County

What Bergen County roofs are up against

Trees, wind, and winter

Mature oaks and maples shade much of Bergen County, which is beautiful until a nor’easter brings limbs down on roofs and fills gutters with leaves. Shaded roofs stay damp longer, so moss and algae streaks are common on north-facing slopes. Winter freeze-thaw cycles work water into aging flashing, and towns along the Palisades and the Hackensack River see stronger gusts in big storms.

A mix of pre-war and post-war homes

Southern and eastern Bergen towns have many homes built before World War II: colonials, Tudors, and two-family houses, often with board decking and more than one layer of shingles. Farther north and west, post-war Capes, ranches, and split-levels are common, and many are now on their second or third roof.

FAQ

Bergen County roofing questions

Still have a question? Call (201) 773-6635 or email info@allprosnj.com.

Do you serve all of Bergen County?

Yes. We work in all 70 Bergen County municipalities, from Fort Lee and Englewood to Mahwah, Ramsey, and Ridgewood. Find your town in the list on this page.

Why do Bergen County roofs get moss and dark streaks?

Shade from mature trees keeps roofs damp, which lets moss and algae grow, especially on north-facing slopes. Trimming branches lets the roof dry faster, and moss should be removed before it lifts shingles.

My Bergen County home is pre-war. Is that a problem for a new roof?

Not at all, but it changes the job. Older homes often have board decking and multiple shingle layers. We tear off to the deck, replace damaged boards, and build the new roof on a solid base.
